The M & M’s of Life Exciting News I Can’t Wait to Share With You
It’s news 5 years in the making, folks. After 5 years of waiting, I can finally announce that I signed a publishing contract for my first book, “Finding Joy When Life is Out of Focus.” (Insert confetti strewn everywhere and those annoying noise-makers blaring deafeningly.) If you’ve ever waited for something so long you wondered if God forgot about you, then you understand the need for an unbridled victory dance.
Of course God can’t and doesn’t forget about us. But sometimes, in the dark room where patience is developed, doubt and confusion creep in. If I’m honest, I’ve wrestled with my share of disappointment and anxiety since first writing my manuscript in spiral notebooks throughout 2012. My journey zig-zagged through a dizzying maze of acceptances and rejections, my head reeling from far too many twists and turns. I knew God called me to write my story of seasons when life obscured my lens on joy. He led me to the book of Philippians, 4 short chapters with a lot to say on the subject. As I’ve studied, written edited, revised, agonized and cried, God showed me that the journey is as important as the destination. He’s painstakingly taught me the value of waiting on His timing and trusting His character even when we don’t understand the circumstances.
I’m so grateful for each of you and your fingerprints on my life. You’ve traveled with me across the uncertain terrain of discovering an extraordinary God in ordinary moments. We desperately want to Make Our Lives Matter No Matter What. And part of that includes hiking through the craziness of life with nothing but blind faith. I may not know what you’re going through today, but I know that God is never distant, never arbitrary, and never late. If I can offer you any encouragement today, it’s that you’ll never go wrong following God, even when you don’t know where He’s taking you.
In upcoming months, I’ll share ways you can be involved in the launch of “Finding Joy.” It will be released with Bridge Logos Publishing in September of 2018 as a Study of Philippians. I turn the big 5-0 (gulp!) next June, and I can’t think of a better birthday present. I also can’t think of a better way to give the enemy a black eye than to allow the times in my life where my joy felt most scarce to serve as a catalyst to provide a resource for joy-thirsty women. And the good news is, I’m not unique. God will use your private pain for kingdom gain if you’ll allow Him to use your story for His glory. Our homes, churches, and workplaces become platforms to broadcast His grace. Simply make yourself available and God will do the rest.
Thank you for your prayers and encouragement! I appreciate you bearing with the scarcity of my weekly blogs as I approach the deadline for my manuscript. If you don’t hear from me before Thanksgiving, have a wonderful gratitude-filled time with friends and family. Ooze grace this holiday season and experience God’s love in greater measure than ever before.
