Soul Conditioner

“He parted the heavens and came down…He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters…He rescued me because He has delighted in me.” Psalm 18:16-19

“Ouch! That hurts!”

As a little girl, I remember sitting on the floor while my mom worked through the tangles in my long blonde hair. Eyes squeezed shut and fists clenched, I fought the urge to grab the comb and take over. Detangling was not optional—but it was painful.

Years later, when I found myself holding the comb for my own daughter, I had a newfound appreciation for one simple thing: conditioner.

It makes all the difference.

And isn’t that true of our souls, too?

Life has a way of tangling our hearts. Disappointment. Delays. Misunderstandings. Prayers that feel unanswered. Before we know it, we’re carrying knots of confusion, frustration, and fear. And in those moments, one question quietly rises to the surface:

“God…are You even speaking to me?”

If you’ve ever struggled to hear God’s voice clearly, you’re not alone.

David knew that feeling well.

In Psalm 18, he describes a season where life felt overwhelming—like cords wrapped tightly around him, pulling him under. This is the same David who had been anointed king…yet spent years hiding in caves, waiting for the promise to come to pass.

Have you ever felt like that?

Caught between what God said and what you’re actually living?

That space—the in-between—can feel painfully quiet. Confusing. Even discouraging. But David shows us something powerful:

“I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help.”

And God responded.

“He parted the heavens and came down…”

Don’t miss that.

God didn’t stay distant.

He didn’t ignore the cry.

He came close.

When our hearts feel tangled and His voice feels faint, it’s not because He has stopped speaking. Often, it’s because our souls need tending.

They need conditioning.

Here are three simple prayers that can help you begin to hear Him more clearly again:

1. Slow Down (Patience)

God often speaks in ways that require stillness to recognize. If your life feels loud, His voice may feel distant—not because He isn’t speaking, but because there’s too much noise.

Prayer: “God, what do You want me to learn in this season?”

2. Stay Steady (Persistence)

Just because you don’t hear Him immediately doesn’t mean He isn’t working. The space between promise and fulfillment is often where God does His deepest work.

Prayer: “What is one step I can take today in obedience?”

3. Shift Your View (Perspective)

Sometimes clarity comes when we stop asking, “Why is this happening?” and start asking, “God, what are You doing in me through this?”

Prayer: “How can You receive glory from this?”

Friend, God is not silent.

He is present in the tension.

He is near in the waiting.

He is faithful in the quiet.

And just like a gentle hand working through every knot, He knows exactly how to tend to your heart.

I can’t promise it won’t be uncomfortable.

But I can promise this: when He is finished, your soul will breathe easier…your heart will rest deeper…and His voice will become clearer.

If your heart has been feeling tangled lately, I created something just for you.

It’s called “100 Fearless Scriptures”—a simple, daily way to return to God’s voice through His Word. Day by day, verse by verse, you’ll begin to recognize His heart, His truth, and His direction for your life.

You don’t have to figure this out alone.
